You Are Enough - Animation

The story
The story I created based on the song is about a person feeling like they're not enough. You can see this in the color of the character (gray/blueish), but also in the background. The light helps them see that they ARE enough, and the farther we get in the song, the more colorful the character will get, until they understand that they are in fact enough.
The proces
As you can see, this animation is not finished yet. I'll show you the proces so far.

I had five weeks to create (part of) an animation for a song. During these five weeks, I was also working on the Grutterswinkel Animation. I got a lot of freedom. I could do whatever I wanted, as long as I told a story through my animation.

I chose to use Procreate to create the assets and I used Procreate Dreams to animate it. This was the first time I used Dreams. I also chose to animate on the beat of the song. I started this project with making a storyboard based on the lyrics of the song.
After this, I chose the colors and brushes I wanted to use. For reference, I used the album cover of the song.
And I had to start with the design of my character. I first created a colored in version, and after that I created the black & white one, because at the start of the animation the person is sad and feels like they're not enough. I want to represent that by making the character black & white and I want to make them feel small, by making the shirt look too big for them. I wanted the character to be relatable to everyone, so the hair is short and the colors are as well for boys as for girls.
I got a little stuck on the colors for the drawing. The colors I chose, we're not working for my illustrations. But then I saw the movie Klaus again. In Klaus, there is this gray village (Smeerensburg) with barely any colors. It looks sad and not maintained, and that is exactly the vibe I'm going for. That's where the colors for my assets came from.
I also needed to think about the way I wanted to write and animate the words “You’re enough”. Here you can see some ideas I have:
